Billionaires Create PAC to Influence Legislature on Charter
Schools
Connecticut experienced a gigantic charter scandal involving the
governor's favorite charter chain Jumoke Academy. It turned out
that the leader of Jumoke had padded his resume and had hired
people with criminal records, and engaged in other improprieties.
But the governor learned nothing and continues to press for
deregulated, unsupervised charter schools. Jumoke had collected
$53 million in public funds between 1998-2013, with no oversight.
Among the billionaires contributing to this new organization are
Michael Bloomberg, Paul Tudor Jones, and Ray Dalio. Don't be
surprised to see members of the Sackler family joining the effort
to expand charter schools; these are the Connecticut billionaires
who love charter schools and made their fortune by selling
Oxycontin, the deadly prescription drug that has addicted so many
people.
2015 Education Industry Mergers, Acquisitions Jumped
Significantly
There were 418 mergers and acquisitions in the education industry
in 2015, up from 329 in 2014, according to research by the
investment bank Berkery Noyes. The value of the deals over that
time period, meanwhile, jumped by 52 percent, to about
$18 billion

Economic inequality isn't just about getting a better education,
when in fact there may be more immediate solutions that could help
tens of millions Americans struggling today.
Robert Reich: "Education is not the only answer and it's
certainly not the immediate solution. At best, it's a necessary,
but not sufficient response to widening inequality."
2016 Technology for Education Consortium
Group Probes Ed-Tech Pricing, Buying.
K-12 officials buying ed-tech
- Chief information officers around the country, are "all having
the same frustrations."Released data that questions the prices
that Apple is charging districts for a popular model of iPads. The
consortium says its research, based on surveys of 40 districts,
shows that the prices those systems paid for iPads with the same
features and design ranged from $367 to $499. That gap can't be
explained by the volume of the purchases or related factors, the
organization argues. Chromebooks is next.
12/2015 HALF OF ALL K12 CLASSROOM COMPUTERS ARE NOW GOOGLE CHROMEBOOKS CNBC is reporting that Chromebooks make up over half of devices used in U.S. classrooms, beating out Apple's iPad and a wide range of Windows PCs to utterly dominate the education market. It's particularly impressive when you consider that, just a couple of years ago, Chromebooks made up less than 1 percent of all such devices.
Related Google proudly trumpet's Chromebook's domination in schools We've talked about the extent to which Google dominates education before, but the rate of growth is staggering. By some estimates 30,000 devices are deployed in U.S. classrooms every day, expanding the education market for computers and taking up most of that growth. - "
Big Tech Has Become Way Too Powerful
"
Conservatives and liberals interminably debate the merits of “the
free market” versus “the government.” Which one you trust more
delineates the main ideological divide in America. In reality,
they aren't two separate things. There can't be a market without
government. Legislators, agency heads and judges decide the rules
of the game. And, over time, they change the rules. The important
question, too rarely discussed, is who has the most influence over
these decisions and in that way wins the game. Now information and
ideas are the most valuable forms of property. Most of the cost of
producing it goes into discovering it or making the first copy.
After that, the additional production cost is often zero. Such
“intellectual property” is the key building block of the new
economy. Without government decisions over what it is, and who can
own it and on what terms, the new economy could not exist. Big
Tech has been almost immune to serious antitrust scrutiny, even
though the largest tech companies have more market power than
ever. Maybe that's because they've accumulated so much political
power. Google is now among the largest corporate lobbyists in the
United States. Economic and political power can't be separated
because dominant corporations gain political influence over how
markets are maintained and enforced, which enlarges their economic
power further. One of the original goals of antitrust law was to
prevent this.
“The enterprises of the country are aggregating vast corporate combinations of unexampled capital, boldly marching, not for economical conquests only, but for political power,” warned Edward G. Ryan, the chief justice of Wisconsin's Supreme Court, in 1873. Antitrust law was viewed as a means of breaking this link. “If we will not endure a king as a political power,” Senator John Sherman of Ohio thundered, “we should not endure a king over the production, transportation and sale” of what the nation produced.
The underlying issue has little to do with whether one prefers the “free market” or government. The real question is how government organizes the market, and who has the most influence over its decisions. We are now in a new gilded age similar to the first Gilded Age, when the nation's antitrust laws were enacted. As then, those with great power and resources are making the “free market” function on their behalf. Big Tech — along with the drug, insurance, agriculture and financial giants — dominates both our economy and our politics.

No Money Left Behind
The Bush bros have common ties to one particularly controversial
educational entrepreneur. Starting in the late 1990s, Randy Best,
whom I profiled at the end of George W. Bush's second term, used
his connections to the president to transform a virtually unknown
for-profit education company, Voyager, into a "selling juggernaut"
(in his words) that he unloaded in 2005 for $360 million. Randy
Best Steve Brodner The key to Voyager's success was the way it it
used revolving doors in Bush's Education Department to game the
procurement process. Its dealings prompted a scathing DOE
inspector general's report in 2006 and a harshly worded Senate
report the following year. "Many programs, including Voyager, were
probably adopted on the basis of relationships, rather than
effectiveness data," G. Reid Lyon, who co-wrote the No Child Left
Behind Act and later consulted for Best, told me in 2008. "I
thought all this money would be great; it would get into schools.
But money makes barracudas out of people. It's an amazing thing."

ProQuest Company Acquires ( BUSH privately held ) Voyager Expanded Learning.ANON ~ "I worked at a for-profit company that focused on educational technology. I thought that working for an education-based company would help me feel like I was still working towards something nobel while still getting paid a reasonable rate.... not so. I felt disgusted about how we were constantly pressured to design with the idea of making more products to sell rather than products that made a difference. Our sales team worked hard to suck poor school systems dry. It was truly disappointing."
Wall Street Eyes Profit Potential in Public School Budgets. The
privatization movement has swung into high gear.
Many people find it hard to understand why so many Wall Street
hedge fund managers and equity investors have suddenly become
interested in public education.
Here is a good explanation
. No one ever went wrong by following the money. Who wins? Who
loses? And another important issue: where is the evidence that
privatization improves education or saves money? Or does it save
money while making education worse?
2010 K12 Inc. (NYSE: LRN) , Ron Packard, founder and CEO of K12 Inc. is the nation's largest provider of proprietary curriculum and online school programs for students in kindergarten through high school.
Neil Bush, Jeb Bush, George Bush Senior, Mrs. Bush, and President George Bush have created the education monopoly. that started in In 1999, with Ignite and included Bill Bennett for an educational venture called K12, Inc. that started with $4M of taxpayer NCLB funding !!! now going to be worth a Billion dollars!!! This is how you take money from the public / the commons and into the pocket of privateers!!! This doesn't have anything to do with education but everything to do with stealing our money.
The Bush Family has stolen before.
Jeb Bush explains how to get all your tax money away from you and given to his friends in K12.com - Monopoly doesn't want to have Direct Competition !!!
Jeb Bush governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007, vouchers, school choice man will create the education monopoly. With the help of his family. Two other Bush-supported programs - one that offers tax credits to business that help send low-income kids to private schools and another that gives vouchers to disabled students - survived the high-court ruling. Bush also expanded the Florida Virtual School, a national model for online public education. Since leaving office, Bush has promoted his reform agenda in other states. He founded the Foundation for Excellence in Education and serves as co-chair of the Digital Learning Council to support information technology and will create the education monopoly.

Reading First was a cornerstone of NCLB. The Inspector General Department's Report , a scorching internal review of the Bush administration's billion-dollar-a-year reading program says the Education Department ignored the law and ethical standards to steer money how it wanted. The government audit is unsparing in its view that the Reading First program has been beset by conflicts of interest and willful mismanagement. It suggests the department broke the law by trying to dictate which curriculum schools must use.
