MYTH OF MULTITASKING - MAKE IT STOP

MYTH OF Human
MULTI TASKING

NPR on Multitasking According to NPR, multitaskers are terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks -- but in their defense, they're terrible at them at the same time.

Lord Chesterfield said in 1740

In one of the many letters he wrote to his son in the 1740s, Lord Chesterfield offered the following advice:

"There is time enough for everything in the course of the day, if you do but one thing at once, but there is not time enough in the year, if you will do two things at a time." To Chesterfield, singular focus was not merely a practical way to structure one's time; it was a mark of intelligence. "This steady and undissipated attention to one object, is a sure mark of a superior genius; as hurry, bustle, and agitation, are the never-failing symptoms of a weak and frivolous mind."

YOUR ARE NOT A MACHINE !
The essence of a multiuser multitasking system is that users have no access to the computer hardware. Users - and their applications - cannot access the computer screen directly, access the keyboard directly, access peripherals directly, or any of that. Their requests go through their application code to the system APIs which in turn send them to the kernel, which in turn talks to the drivers.

Multitasking is a word that describes operating systems in internet history. See Turing Award-winning implementer of multitasking operating systems.

The Internet is a dangerously powerful impetus to groupthink, multitasking makes people "more likely to rely on conventional ideas and solutions rather than challenging them with original lines of thought.

About the TEENAGE - ADULT Brain AND BEYOND
When peopole try to do 2 or more related tasks at the same time or go back and forth quickly between them errors go way way up and it takes longer often TWICE AS LONG. The bottom line is you CAN'T simultaneously be thinking about something and do something else / do 2 things at once. You will never ever be able to overcome the brain's limitations for processing information. Humans can't do it.
Brodmann's area 10 located in the anterior prefrontal cortex is used for multitasking. It helps you switch from one thing to the next thing then back to the first thing again. It is one of the first areas in your head to develop and one of the first to deteriorate as you age.
